Overcoming Barriers to Completion of Dental AuditsCedar County Public Health sought to address the low rate of children who had a record of receiving a dental screening prior to entering kindergarten. Providing Medical Care at Large Public EventsVolunteers from the Lewis County MRC and Providence Health & Services provided services to 503 riders, including 135 who required hands-on patient care, at the mid-route medical aid station in Centralia, Washington for 10,000 bicyclists riding in the 2015 Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic. This experience was excellent medical surge training for closely allied community partners. Sep 21, 2015 | Alyson Jordan |
School Based Oral Health ProgramLocal health departments serve as a clearinghouse to bring oral health services to children in local public schools. Data is collected by the health department and reported back to the schools. Sep 16, 2015 | Alyson Jordan |
Oral Health to Enhance “Educational Readiness”For over 10 years, the DC Department of Health (DOH) has supported preventive oral health services for school-age children. Increasing tooth decay prevalence among younger children necessitated an early intervention approach. Although the Dental Officer implemented a "perinatal" strategy to decay prevention, the program needed an evaluation plan to measure the effectiveness of these efforts. Sep 09, 2015 | Alyson Jordan |
WV Volunteer Dentists Develop Community Adult Treatment ProgramThe Smiles for Life Adult Screening and Referral Program provides a safety net for most needed dental treatment to low income adults in the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department (MOVHD) Region. Prior to its establishment there was not a public health program addressing adult oral health needs. The program demonstrates a true community partnership. Aug 19, 2015 | Alyson Jordan |
