The opioid epidemic has spread rapidly and uncontrollably through our country and our community. Research consistently links Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adverse Community Environments, the Pair of Aces, with opioid use and abuse. Ending this threat requires a coordinated, community-wide effort between non-traditional partners to address the immediate crisis as well as the root causes.
Annually, public health officials prepare for the upcoming influenza (flu) season and emphasize the importance of receiving the flu vaccine. To “lead by example,” NACCHO’s Employee Wellness and Flu Vaccination Initiative aims to promote a culture of total wellness among employees with a particular emphasis on preparing employees for the upcoming flu season.
Smoke-free multi-unit housing benefits residents and property owners. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires every public housing agency to implement a smoke-free policy by July 2018. Local health departments play a key role in working with public housing agencies to prepare, implement, educate, enforce, and evaluate smoke-free housing policies.
Using newly-available data on nearly one million children in Colorado, the Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition (CCIC) developed custom fact sheets to help each Senate and House district understand its level of community protection and identify areas for improvement.
