Environmental Health Assessments and Tools

NACCHO is dedicated to assisting local health officials conduct community environmental health assessments through a number of tools and resources.

NACCHO developed the Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health (PACE-EH), a methodology to guide local communities in identifying and addressing environmental health priorities.

The following publications have been created by NACCHO to help your local health department improve your environmental impact. You can access them in the NACCHO Archives.

EnvPHPS: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed the Environmental Public Health Performance Standards (EnvPHPS) to provide an important benchmark for participating agencies to measure the capacity of their local environmental public health system. EnvPHPs are a set of 10 standards modeled after the National Public Health Performance Standards (NPHPS) and based on the 10 Essential Services of Environmental Health. The assessment process encourages system partners to better coordinate and target their activities and is intended to provide a foundation for implementing performance improvement activities.
