The University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (UI PRC-RH) partnered with Local Public Health Departments (LPHDs) and their State Advisory Board of public health practitioners to translate the success of the Active Ottumwa pilot study. Evaluation of the Active Ottumwa project showed an increase in physical activity among community members. To strengthen success in other communities, implementation supports were created for and with community leaders in micropolitan communities. These materials can be found on the UI PRC-RH website. They are free to use and include the following: The Manual of Implementation includes the programs background, evidence-based strategies, adaptation of strategies, and evaluation, implementation, and sustaining of the program. Supplemental training videos include twelve videos, each 5-15 minutes long, on how to adopt and adapt Active Iowa to micropolitan communities. A Physical Activity Leader binder includes training materials for program Physical Activity Leaders. Templates for program of flyers and documents to support program evaluation (such as sign-in sheets, liability waivers, and tracking documents) that can be altered to fit the needs of individual Active Iowa programs. A COVID-19 Addendum provides guidance to improve safety of in-person physical activities during an infectious disease outbreak, like COVID-19. A Virtual Addendum outlines options to lead activities in virtual formats and details further considerations when offering virtual programming. An additional of virtual how-to videos support leading virtual physical activity classes on Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Google Meet, and Zoom. An Active Iowa Social Media Toolkit provides social media graphics to promote Active Iowa programs on Facebook, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
