In the event of a radiological accident or explosion, the establishment of a Community Reception Center (CRC) may become necessary to provide a location capable of receiving, registering, and tracking potentially radiologically contaminated persons.

Various state and local public officials have overlapping authorities with regard to protecting public health and safety.

During a radiological emergency, the presence of overlapping authorities will necessitate close communication and coordination between local public health authorities.

This toolkit was created through a collaborative effort between Austin Public Health, Williamson County and Cities Health District, and Hays County Health Department to provide their jurisdictions with a scalable, flexible framework for activating and operating a CRC when needed.
