Smart Growth developed "Getting to Smart Growth: 100 Policies for Implementation." This primer is targeted bridge the gap between communities that have recognized the value and importance of smart growth (creating healthy, livable communities) and developing and implementing policies to achieve it. Smart Growth achieves this by highlighting and describing techniques to help policymakers put ten smart growth principles into practice. While this guide does not specifically mention health in all policies (HiAP), it does provide good guidance on how health officials can work with non-traditional partners to "agree to a new way of doing business." Several communities have been successful in incorporating these policies and guidelines into their legislative or regulatory efforts and into informal approaches, plans, and programs. These policies and guidelines are not meant to represent the only means to achieve Smart Growth, but they do represent real and innovative ways to achieving it.
