Agency strategic plans are one of the prerequisites for public health accreditation and this requirement presents an opportunity to advance a health in all policies (HiAP) approach. Monterey County Health Department's "Strategic Plan 2011 - 2015" shows how one community used their agency strategic plan to adopt HiAP. The strategic plan "proposes a novel system integration for Monterey County with a focus on prevention that advocates HiAP, a "whole government" approach to health. This strategic plan can serve as a guide and provide sample language to other local jurisdictions interested in building HiAP into their own agency strategic plans.
