In putting together a community health assessment survey (or similar surveys), we often lift items from the BRFSS or other sources, sometimes breaking up validated scales, or using items that may not be well tested or validated. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has put together a database of tested questionnaire items. Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), funded by the NIH, is a system of highly reliable, valid, flexible, precise, and responsive assessment tools that measure patientreported health status.
