The American Association of Health and Disability is a partner in NACCHO's National Health and Disability Workgroup and is a cross-disability national non-profit organization committed to promoting health and wellness initiatives for children and adults with disabilities. AAHD is the only national organization specifically dedicated to integrating disability into the overall public health agenda. AAHD's purpose is to advance theory, knowledge and practice in reducing the incidence of secondary conditions, improving accessibility and eliminating health disparities in children and adults with disabilities. Resources available on this website include a health promotion resource center which provides scholarly abstracts in a wide variety of topic areas, best practices in many areas of interest to local health departments (e.g., health promotion, emergency preparedness, health education, obesity, program evaluation, sexuality, violence, smoking cessation, assistive technology), data, fact sheets, and PowerPoints. Local health departments may also find AAHD's initiatives and public policy center helpful. Accessibility: This website is generally screen reader accessible, but images and headers may not have alternate text descriptions and navigation may be confusing.
