Stress Response Team Resource Guide- l, this unique Unit aims to provide needed mental health related response services in the event of state, local and national disasters or other catastrophic events. More specifically, SRT members perform one or more of several roles when providing disaster psychosocial assistance. These are: ? stabilize or treat pre-existing and newly developed psychiatric conditions in disaster survivors; ? provide psychological first aid to the acutely affected; ? provide mental health counseling and support to frontline responders, ? participate in multidisciplinary disaster health care teams, providing resources and on-the-ground training, and monitoring and supporting the mental health of the team; ? help assess a communitys mental health needs post-disaster so that appropriate programs can be developed and put in place, and; ? as trained and authorized, provide spiritual care support through accompaniment, compassionate care, individual and communal prayer, and appropriate ritual in the context of varied expressions of faith, belief systems, and traditions.
