Objective: To provide a structured learning framework that builds on topics and knowledge explored in the Unnatural Causes film series to have youth explore the root causes that contribute to disparities in health and health care. Target Audience: Youth ages 13-25 years old. Process and Timeline: Will vary by class and program. Suggestions for in-school time use Use as part of existing course as a single class session, multiple class sessions, or unit lecture. Incorporate into Free Periods and advisories. Use as an additional resource to enhance already existing health professions, English language arts, public policy and administration curricula. Suggestions for afterschool use: Integrate as part of or use as main focus for afterschool clubs Work with a core group of students to plan an afterschool viewing to select episodes and activities Boston Public School / BPHC School Pilot Winter 2009: The BPS 2009 Winter pilot will inform the Unnatural Causes Youth Companion Guide development into a credit bearing course for all Boston Public Schools and a model tool to be disseminated nationally.
