Local health departments (LHDs) in the United States are challenged daily to provide for and protect the health of the people living here. In order to protect our communities, LHDs need a national voice. NACCHO is that voice.

NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities by promoting national policy, developing resources and programs, seeking health equity, and supporting effective local public health practice and systems.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
NACCHO Advocates

NACCHO successfully works with federal policymakers to address the needs of local public health and is a respected voice on Capitol Hill. In recent years, NACCHO’s leaders have testified before Congress, addressing critical issues such as pandemic influenza and allocation of public health preparedness funding. NACCHO’s Government Affairs staff communicates regularly with Congressional staff and Members of Congress as well as administration officials regarding pressing local public health issues.

As a NACCHO member, you will be informed of emerging issues and empowered to participate in public health advocacy through:

• E-mail Action Alerts on key public health issues.

• “Notes from Washington,” a column published in

each monthly issue of Public Health Dispatch and

available on our Web site.

• Our online Legislative Action Center, which provides easy access to your Members of Congress and all the necessary information and talking points.

• Press release templates and policy fact sheets that provide background for interacting with

reporters.

Together, we are a powerful voice advocating for policy that will help protect the public’s health in your community and across the nation.
