NACCHO Supports Local Implementation of Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC)

Through a cooperative agreement with CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, NACCHO provides technical assistance to LHD’s working toward implementation of Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control (CCC) efforts at the community level. NACCHO supports LHDs in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies to improve population health. In line with its strategic map, NACCHO supports LHDs in championing effective cancer prevention approaches by:

  • Making linkages between LHDs and state CCC coalitions
  • Developing and sharing tools and publications to support members in enhancing local CCC efforts
  • Promoting model CCC practices
  • Supporting LHDs in developing and sustaining partnerships for CCC
  • Providing training and technical assistance to enhance the capacity of LHDs to implement local CCC activities

To submit a technical assistance request or get connected with your state's CCC coalition, contact Brandie Adams, MPH at badams@naccho.org or (202) 507-4210.

Action Guide for Building Successful and Sustainable Local Cancer Control Coalitions

NACCHO is pleased to release its new action guide to help LHDs build capacity for local implementation of Comprehensive Cancer Control coalitions. Based on the results of NACCHO’s 2011-2012 Cancer Control in Local Health Departments Assessment, the action guide contains lessons learned from local health officials who have successfully implemented local coalitions to reduce the cancer burden in their communities. NACCHO Seeks Examples of Local Comprehensive Cancer Control Plans for Inclusion in New Toolkit

With funding from the CDC, NACCHO is preparing to release its Action Guide and Toolkit for Building Successful and Sustainable Cancer Coalitions.  These resources are designed to build LHD capacity for local implementation of comprehensive cancer control activities in collaboration with state partners.  You can help NACCHO to provide LHDs with valuable tools that will further the work of local cancer coalitions by submitting a tool or resource to the toolkit.
NACCHO is seeking to include examples of local cancer plans and stories from the field about how LHDs have partnered with state entities to prevent cancer at the local level.
If you have a local cancer plan, success story, or other resource that will be helpful to LHDs implementing cancer control activities, please submit them to badams@naccho.org for inclusion in the toolkit.

What is Comprehensive Cancer Control

26256607-people-working-together_1Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) consists of collaborative strategies to leverage community resources for cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. Common CCC activities include implementation of strategies designed to reduce cancer risk, promote healthy lifestyles, ensure access to screenings/diagnostic technologies, and improve the quality of treatment and support services to enhance survivorship. Through the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control Division, CDC funds state-based CCC coalitions who work diligently to build infrastructure, leverage resources, conduct surveillance, determine priorities, and measure the impact of programs designed to improve cancer outcomes.
