Jefferson County Health Department (WA)

Background:

Approximately 137 children and adults in Jefferson County have a disability. Jefferson County Public Health and its community partners conducted a pilot project funded by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to promote the health and well-being of people with disabilities.

Project Activities:

Jefferson County Public Health is building awareness of emergency preparedness and individuals living with disabilities by offering emergency preparedness classes and "grab and go" backpacks.

Technical Assistance Program:

NACCHO offers technical assistance support to help local health departments improve their capacity to develop or enhance health promotion programs for people living with disabilities through coordination of existing health department and community services. Jefferson County Public Health provides technical assistance to Randolph Board of Health, MA.  For more information, please visit Randolph Board of Health.

Project Update:

Randolph County Health Department received guidance from Jefferson County Health Department (WA) to gain information on how the sponsor agency created and implemented emergency preparedness activities in Port Townsend. With information and materials gained from the Jefferson County Health Department, they were able to reach out to individuals with developmental disabilities.
