State: CT
Date Added: 11/13/2009
Themes: Vaccine Planning and Administration
Issue Summary: Clown provides distraction for small children at mass vaccination clinic
Description of Issue(s): In an effort to maximize time in processing a large number of people during a mass H1N1 clinic, the Greenwich Department of Health came up with an idea of providing a distraction aimed towards kids so that parents and/or guardians could fill out forms readily. This idea in theory would be successful if the right distraction method? was implemented.
Actions taken to address the issue(s): The Department obtained the use of a Clown. As the forms were being filled out by the parents the children were entertained and kept happy until of course they received their shots.
Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: When scheduling a mass clinic that involves small children think of a strategy to keep them quiet and occupied until they receive their shot. The Greenwich Department had a great experience and the clinic process moved very quickly.
