Apply to Join NACCHO’s Virtual Learning Collaborative for the Inclusion of MCH Populations in Emergency Preparedness and Response

Oct 30, 2023 | Harpur Schwartz, Elana Filipos

NACCHO, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Reproductive Health, is recruiting members for a Virtual Learning Collaborative (VLC) to train maternal-child health (MCH) and emergency preparedness and response (EPR) professionals at local health departments (LHDs) on integrating MCH considerations into emergency planning. This VLC aims to increase the capacity of LHDs to prioritize MCH populations in emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts through training modules and interactive hands-on exercises.

Membership

The VLC will comprise staff representing MCH and EPR divisions at LHDs. We are requesting one MCH and one EPR staff member from each LHD to participate in the training series together to ensure successful collaboration and equitable cross-training efforts. Please complete one application per LHD. Thus, each application should include information for the MCH staff member and the EPR staff member. We encourage applications from LHDs that focus on health equity and serve historically underrepresented populations.

Time Commitment

Participation in this learning collaborative will include:

  • Completion of a pre-assessment to identify current capacity and areas for growth and a post-assessment at the end of the project
  • Participation in three MCH/EPR virtual training modules and three interactive case study exercises via the Zoom platform based on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Maternal-Child Health (MCH) Emergency Planning toolkit. Please note: this VLC functions based on peer-to-peer conversation. Participants should come to the training sessions prepared to share and have interactive discussions in real time.
  • Mandatory attendance at a one-day tabletop exercise training at the 2024 NACCHO360 Conference, July 23-26th, 2024 (expenses covered by NACCHO)
  • Office hours as requested/needed

Timeline

The Virtual Learning Collaborative will begin in January 2024 and go through July 2024. The six Zoom sessions will be spread out throughout a 5-month period, from February 2024 to June 2024.

We would like to offer VLC members the opportunity to receive Continuing Education (C.E.) to complete the training modules and case study exercises. Continuing education for this activity is pending.

Apply Today!

If you want to join the Virtual Learning Collaborative, please complete this recruitment form by Thursday, November 30 at 11:59 PM PST.
