Each August NACCHO and partners recognize National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This serve as a reminder that immunizations continue to be a vital part of a healthy life for people of all ages.
By raising awareness of the importance of vaccinating people of all ages, against many serious and sometimes deadly diseases, NACCHO and partners encourage all to ensure they have received the vaccinations that will help to keep themselves and their communities safe. We also take this time to recognize the successes of the different immunizations that have been created in the 20th century and beyond.
The United States has mobilized and sustained a historic response to the COVID-19 pandemic. May 11, 2023, marked the end of this. Over the last few years many people have missed routine vaccines, the CDC urges everyone to ensure they get back on track with the recommended immunization schedule.
There are recommended vaccines for all age groups including vaccines to prevent influenza, shingles, and pneumococcal disease for adults. It is important to use this month of awareness to promote vaccination for these groups and more to ensure people and families are able to live their healthiest lives.
The quizzes below are tools from the CDC to help individuals determine what vaccinations they may need.
NACCHO urges you all to join with us in encouraging everyone to get caught up with routine vaccinations.
Immunization is the most frequent clinical service provided by local health departments. They often serve as critical safety nets for this essential public health service within their communities. In observance of NIAM, NACCHO would like to thank and applaud the many LHDs and their staff for their achievements in battling the COVID-19 pandemic, and preparation for the upcoming back-to-school and influenza seasons.
