The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held a Stakeholder Conference Call on April 2 regarding the release of the Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) Regulatory and Laboratory Training System (RLTS) Strategic Plan.

Target audience for the call: Federal, state, local, tribal, territorial (SLTT), and association regulatory and laboratory officials who may receive, provide, or participate in FDA manufactured human food, produce, eggs, retail food, Grade “A” milk/dairy, molluscan shellfish, and animal food training.

About the Strategic Plan

According to the FDA, this Strategic Plan is expected to “create a more sustainable, collaboratively governed training system that expands national regulatory and laboratory training capacity and availability by leveraging the expertise and resources of all IFSS partners in developing and delivering consistent and quality training.” This training ensures a competent, integrated IFSS workforce that conducts comparable work at all levels. The April 2 call included:

1. An interactive panel discussion with members of the RLTS Steering Committee.

2. An update on the National Curriculum Standards (NCS) for human and animal food regulatory and laboratory professionals that will serve as the foundation for the RLTS.
