Highlights of the Week

Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – March 10th!

Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (March 10th). Though HIV diagnoses among women have declined in recent years, nearly 7,000 women received an HIV diagnosis in the United States and dependent areas in 2019. Only 10% of women who can benefit from PrEP were prescribed PrEP in the United States in 2019. Local health departments and health care providers can support women and girls living with HIV or women and girls who can benefit from HIV care and services by offering free HIV testing, informing patients on PrEP, and most importantly, eliminating the harmful stigma towards HIV/AIDS. Let’s Stop HIV Together also has a new patient brochure that provides important information on how women can prevent HIV by using PrEP. It offers tips on what questions women can ask their health care providers about PrEP.
