Survey: STI and Harm Reduction Integration

NACCHO is conducting a survey to better understand the integration of STI and harm reduction services and to inform a funding opportunity that will be released in early 2023 to support the implementation, scale up, or evaluation of STI/harm reduction integration models. Please complete this survey if your organization currently offers integrated STI/harm reduction services, if you’ve done so in the past, or if you’re currently considering integrating these services. Organizations that complete this survey will be notified when the funding opportunity is released. Access the survey here.


Hepatitis Network for Education and Testing (HepNET) Learning Community Applications

NACCHO, in partnership with NASTAD and the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable, is excited to announce that we’re accepting applications for the first Hepatitis Network for Education and Testing (HepNET) Learning Community. The theme of this Learning Community is “Strengthening Partnerships.” We welcome applications from jurisdictions interested in strengthening partnerships between health departments, community-based and tribal organizations, people with lived and living experience, healthcare providers, and other entities to improve hepatitis health outcomes and health equity for people who inject drugs (PWID) and other priority populations.

Please submit a letter of intent by Monday, November 14th. Applications are due Friday, December 9th.

NACCHO Holds HIV PrEP Financing Listening Session for Local Health Departments

On Wednesday, November 16 at 2 PM EST, NACCHO is hosting a listening session to better understand local health department (LHD) experiences financing pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP) for uninsured clients and other priority communities. Local health departments that prescribe and/or support navigation for PrEP for HIV prevention are encouraged to attend. Discussion topics may include generic vs. name-brand PrEP; LHD use of programs including 340B, Gilead Advancing Access, and Ready, Set, PrEP; impacts of recent changes to Gilead’s Advancing Access reimbursement mechanisms; and LHD priorities in a national PrEP program. Community Education Group’s Appalachian Partnership Fund

Community Education Group’s, Appalachian Partnership Fund is live! CEG will support rural, Appalachian CBOs in their outreach to LGBTQIA+ communities with support from Gilead Sciences and ViiV Healthcare for the “We Are Appalachia: Monkeypox Response” initiative. CEG will be granting 28 mini grants of $1,000 to eligible programs to be used for any Monkeypox response plans that relate to education, outreach, and more.

CEG will accept applications on an ongoing basis until funds are awarded. The first review of grant applications will begin on November 15, 2022. Organizations eligible to apply must be based in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia.

Doxy-PEP: Data, Implications, and a Way Forward Webinar

The use of Doxycycline for post-exposure prophylaxis (Doxy-PEP) has been recently considered as an additional tool to combat the epidemic through the NIH-funded Doxy-PEP study. The study shows that Doxy-PEP may be successful in preventing bacterial STIs amongst individuals at an increased risk for repeated STI acquisition. Join NACCHO on Tuesday, November 15th at 1pm EST to take a deeper look into the Doxy-PEP study as Dr. Julie Dombrowski, a co-investigator of the study who also helps run Public Health — Seattle & King County’s HIV/STD program, will discuss the data and findings from the study, as well as how this impacts the future of public health.

Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative Webinar

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office of HIV/AIDS Housing (OHH) are hosting a webinar on November 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM EST to provide updates on major federal activities related to the implementation of the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative. It will highlight innovative methods of health equity through evidence-based practices, improve HIV diagnosis, care and treatment outcomes for individuals living with HIV. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) is hosting a webinar on November 15, 2022, from 2:00-3:15 pm (ET). This webinar, Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US (EHE)- Quarterly Stakeholder, aims to educate community members on HIV treatment, care, and prevention, as well as provide a question-and-answer period from major government officials. CEDIS DIS Position and Coaching Program Opportunity

The Coaching for Enhanced Disease Intervention Skills (CEDIS) program is looking for experienced Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) with an interest in coaching less experienced DIS. This position requires DIS with three years of current or prior frontline disease intervention work experience. The CDC is hosting a presentation dedicated to Recognition, Remembrance, and Reflection: The Syphilis Study at Tuskegee and Macon County, Alabama. This presentation is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the United States Public Health Service Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male in these counties of Alabama. CDC hopes to foster authentic conversation around public health figures transtioning from trust to trustworthiness. This is a hybrid event. Guests are allowed to attend either online or in-person. PHAT Technical Assistance Conference Call for Prospective Host Sites

CDC’s Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) will host a technical assistance conference call for prospective host organizations on Thursday, December 8 at 2 pm EST. Discussion topics include characteristics of a quality application and navigation of eFMS v2.0 system. PHAP’s partnerships with host sites for public health associates are vital to the development of our nation’s next generation of public health professionals.
