Today we are exploring the five themes that influenced updates to Project Public Health Ready (PPHR)’s goals and measures and application overall. These changes, to be released in July, were necessary to better support local health departments (LHDs) in enhancing both their own preparedness and the resilience of the communities they serve.

The Guiding Themes:

  1. Clarification of Criteria Fulfillment and Evaluation
  2. Alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) and Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) Requirements
  3. Integration of Changes in Emergency Management Practices
  4. Incorporation of Lessons Learned from Large-Scale Public Health Events
  5. Reflection of Unique State and Local Landscapes

These elements were developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, including members of the Preparedness Planning, Outcomes, and Measures (PPOM) Workgroup, current and former National Reviewers, State Leads, and past and present PPHR applicants. Their valuable input played a critical role in refining the themes and guiding important updates to the application’s goals and measures. Their dedication to the program is evident throughout, and NACCHO is deeply appreciative of their contributions.

NACCHO’s PPHR team is confident that the revised application offers a more effective tool for local health departments to evaluate and enhance their public health preparedness.

Starting in July, get a first look at the updated application. Portions of each goal and select measures will be highlighted to showcase some of the changes and demonstrate how the improvements enhance the overall application.

Follow along in this blog series exploring the program updates, sharing expert perspectives, and highlighting how PPHR can help strengthen your department’s preparedness.
