NACCHO Webinar | Understanding Assisted Living: Building Effective Partnerships with Local Health Departments to Support Infection Prevention and Control

Aug 05, 2026 | Jaclyn Abramson

Assisted living communities play an important role in supporting residents, but their structure and healthcare needs can differ from those of skilled nursing facilities and other healthcare settings. Understanding these differences can help local health departments build stronger partnerships and provide effective infection prevention and control (IPC) support.

Join NACCHO, CDC, and Argentum on Wednesday, September 2, from 1:00–2:00 PM ET for Understanding Assisted Living: Building Effective Partnerships with Local Health Departments to Support Infection Prevention and Control.

This panel discussion will help local health departments better understand assisted living communities, explore considerations for IPC training and outbreak preparedness, and hear perspectives from national and assisted living partners working to strengthen healthcare IPC across settings.

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Key characteristics of assisted living communities and how they differ from skilled nursing facilities and other healthcare settings

  • Considerations for IPC training and support within assisted living settings

  • Strategies for building proactive partnerships between local health departments and assisted living communities

  • Resources and national partner initiatives that support IPC in assisted living settings

Featured Speakers:

  • Sheri Easton-Garrett, MSN, RN, CWP, CDP, CMDCP – Senior Vice President Clinical Operations, Belmont Village

  • Heather Jones, DNP, NP-C – Nurse Consultant, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
