On May 6, the NACCHO Risk Communications workgroup, along with NACCHO and CDC staff, convened in Atlanta to discuss renaming the Mobile Text Messaging Project, a text-based medication reminder system for patients prescribed antivirals during pandemic influenza.
Over 30 people attended the meeting, including nine NACCHO workgroup members. The meeting opened with introductions and an overview of best practices for product renaming. A brainstorming session followed, after which meeting attendees used scoring worksheets to identify their top name choices. These were submitted to CDC staff for further consideration.
In the afternoon, meeting attendees broke into groups in order to rework text messaging content and to assess barriers to effective outreach to diverse groups, including the elderly and parents with young children.
Subject matter experts are currently reviewing messages drafted by the Mobile Text Messaging Council. Project partners hope to test the Mobile Text Messaging Project in late summer 2014.
