The COVID-19 has severely impacted the mental wellbeing of the public health workforce. A CDC survey of governmental public health workers conducted between March and April 2021 found that 53% of respondents reported an adverse mental health condition—such as depression, anxiety, and suicide—in the two weeks prior to taking the survey. Similarly, the Public Health Workforce Interest and Needs Survey, fielded by the deBeaumont Foundation between September 2021 and January 2022, found that over 50% of respondents reported at least one symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder. This plenary will explore the impact COIVD-19 had on the public health workforce mental wellbeing and discuss strategies for coping, recovering, and building strength within the workforce as we move forward.
