Highlights: NPHIC convened public health communicators from across the country for a two-day training event in Chicago. Sessions focused on the use of social media during emergencies, messaging around the new National Health Security Preparedness Index, and communicating about immunizations. The CDC presented on two topics: the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine spoke about new initiatives to measure risk in vulnerable populations and the Strategic National Stockpile spoke about public information and communication in a medical countermeasure response, particularly around the implementation of point of dispensing sites. Videos and slides from the Symposium can be viewed on NPHIC’s website. NACCHO staff also facilitated an in-person meeting of the Risk Communications and Information Sharing workgroup during the first night of the event.
