The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) partnered with the CDC to develop a new online course, Wildfire Smoke and Your Patients’ Health, with continuing education credit provided by the CDC. Sections include: health effects; lifestages and populations at greater risk of experiencing health effects; air quality and smoke; actions to take before and during a wildfire to reduce smoke exposure; and, available resources such as fact sheets.
This course takes about 45 minutes to complete and is intended for physicians, registered nurses, asthma educators, and other involved in clinical or health education, although the course is accessible to anyone. This course compliments the recently updated publication, Wildfire Smoke: A Guide for Public Health Officials, and more resources on this topic can be found in the EPA’s Smoke-Ready Toolbox for Wildfires.
