  • May 30: Jeff Schlegelmilch, Deputy Director for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, discussed understanding the Nation’s readiness to prepare for and respond to disasters, with a focus on children; as well as data collection of past hurricanes and the gulf oil spill, looking at long-term impacts, particularly in children and their adverse childhood experiences.   • May 16: Amanda Hunter, Hospital Preparedness Coordinator for the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, discusses Hepatitis A outbreaks in the Louisville area and the role of the hospital preparedness coordinator, as well as the role of the hospital preparedness coordinator in a mass casualty event.   • May 2: Terri Sudden, Director for Emergency Preparedness and Response at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County, talks about her health department’s response to two mass shootings; one at the Ft. Lauderdale airport and one at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. Listen now.
  • April 19: Dr. Nicolette Louissaint, Executive Director of Healthcare Ready, discusses how the Healthcare Ready project came about, how local health departments can utilize private partnerships in their preparedness activities, and necessary steps in making governments and healthcare providers response ready.   • April 2: Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) Director of Government Relations, Dara Lieberman, talks about TFAH’s report “Ready or Not” and how the report has been received. She also discusses the importance of advocacy for public health at the federal level and strategies to help public health workers tell their stories to bring attention to their work and advocate for increased public health funding.
