The Preparedness Policy Advisory Group (PPAG) held its monthly call on April 9. The workgroup welcomed the following new members to the group: Karla Black, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Kent County Health Department in Grand Rapids, MI; Carina Elsenboss, Planning and Partnerships Program Manager, Public Health – Seattle & King County in Seattle, WA; Peggy Keller, Director of Community Preparedness and Resilience, Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Administration, DC Department of Health in Washington, DC; Susan Kunferman, Director and Health Officer, Wood County Health Department in Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Samantha Migit, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Iredell County Health Department, in Statesville, NC. During the April call, the group had an informational update on the public health preparedness capabilities factsheets, which highlight capabilities 1, 8, and 9. The goals of the factsheets are to identify resources to match the gaps and priority areas within the capabilities, as well as identify the challenges that local health departments are facing. The group also had a follow-up conversation on the 2014 Preparedness Summit, as well as a short discussion on two NACCHO policy statements and the FY 2015 appropriation process regarding the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Bill. The next call will be on May 14.
