NACCHO’s Stories from the Field website provides a means for local health departments to share their experiences and demonstrate the value of public health. Stories from the Field can highlight any local health department’s successes, challenges, and innovations that impact public health programs and can share how your local health department works to create healthier, safer lives for the people in your community.
NACCHO has used stories collected on this website for the following activities:
Advocating for local public health departments
Sharing information with federal partners
Raising awareness of the important work of public health professionals
Sharing with other local health departments
After you tell your local health department’s story, you can use it to promote the value of public health in the community. Pitch your story to the media; start off your next presentation with a story instead of statistics; and see if you can sway support within local government for your program by coming prepared with a story the next time you meet with elected officials.
