NACCHO is currently organizing a point-of-dispensing (POD) demonstration via lunch at the 2014 Preparedness Summit. The overall aim of the demonstration is to show innovative practices and provide resources for specific stages in the POD process to help local health departments in their medical countermeasure planning and implementation efforts. An important process of developing this demonstration is to identify those innovative practices that can be demonstrated at each stage. The POD Demonstration Planning Committee will be meeting on Dec. 3 to discuss more. On Nov. 12, NACCHO reached out to all Preparedness Workgroups to take a survey on Closed PODs. CDC, NACCHO, and ASTHO are attempting to gather information on how local medical countermeasure planners are conducting outreach for Closed PODs in order to bolster their planning efforts. This survey looks to inform activities on the federal level and determine whether there needs to be national guidance or training around closed PODs.
