The Preparedness Planning, Outcomes, and Measures (PPOM) workgroup held its monthly call on February 24, 2015. During the call, presenters from Ohio and California discussed how their local health department responded to a measles outbreak. Julie Miller, Health Commissioner at the Knox County Health Department, provided an overview of how the local health department worked with the community, including the Amish, to respond to the Ohio measles outbreak in 2014. Her presentation also highlighted challenges, successes, and lessons learned. Dr. Matt Zahn, Medical Director of Epidemiology and Assessment at the Orange County Health Care Agency, provided an overview of how the local health department responded to the 2015 measles outbreak in California, discussing the need for surge staffing. His presentations also highlighted the command structure for the outbreak as well as lessons learned. The next call is currently scheduled for March 24, 2015.
