On Dec. 17, Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released a new report about the nation’s ability to prevent and control infectious disease entitled “Outbreaks: Protecting Americans from Infectious Diseases.” This new report shows that outdated systems and limited resources have impacted states’ abilities to prevent, control, and treat infectious disease outbreaks. High-priority concerns for infectious disease prevention and control are outlined, such as foundational capabilities and public health funding; vaccine preventable diseases; emerging infectious diseases; emergency outbreak response; food and waterborne illnesses; and HIV/AIDS, viral Hepatitis, and TB. Review the report to learn more about key findings and recommendations to address many of the major gaps in infectious disease control and prevention.
