COVID-19 continues highlighting the critical role of infection prevention and control in nursing homes. In this webinar on Tuesday, July 20, 3:00-4:00 pm ET, Dr. Susan Huang from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) will discuss the UCI team’s experience working with 27 nursing homes in Orange County, California, to implement the Shared Healthcare Intervention to Eliminate Life-Threatening Dissemination of multidrug-resistant organisms in Orange County (SHIELD OC) Program. Dr. Huang will also highlight how implementing the SHIELD OC Program helped avert COVID-19 case burden among nursing home residents and staff. SHIELD is a decolonization program the combats the spread of endemic and emerging multidrug-resistant organisms. It builds capacity at facilities, including nursing homes, on the use of decolonization soap and nasal antiseptic swabs. NACCHO is supporting UCI through its Healthcare-Associated Infection and Antibiotic Resistance (HAI/AR) demonstration site project.
This webinar is open to all members of local health departments as well as other community partners who are interested in this topic. Only registered participants will be able to join. Register here.
