Health literacy is one of the best predictors of health status. It affects an individual’s ability to seek appropriate healthcare services and adhere to treatment. Poor health literacy contributes to high healthcare costs, overuse of emergency departments, and underuse of preventive services. Low health literacy disproportionately affects the people who most often seek public health services.
