Budget Changes
NACCHO has tracked changes in budgets at LHDs since 2008. These charts display those changes with data gathered from the Profile surveys. The first chart shows overall budget changes over time, illustrating the percentage of LHDs who reported their current budget was greater (blue), approximately the same (grey), or less (orange) than the previous year. Use the “Compare Results by” drop-down to display difference between region of the country, degree of urbanization, and population size served.
Median per capita expenditures are a valuable way to examine and compare the overall spending capacity of LHDs. Per capita expenditures are calculated by dividing total expenditures by total population served per LHD. The vertical lines in the chart below represent the overall range of this value for each year that the Profile was fielded from 2008 to 2019. The crosshatches at the top and bottom of each line represent the minimum and maximum values of the distribution. The orange line represents how the overall median of per capita expenditures has changed over time.
