This tool includes the Executive Order in New York City to institute a Food Policy Coordinator position and the standards set forth by that position. The first document is the 2-page Executive Order of the Mayor stating the establishment of a Food Policy Coordinator in NYC and his or her role in increasing access and utilization of food support programs. The Coordinator is also responsible for developing City Agency Food Standards with the Commissioner of the Health Department. The second document is a 9-page PDF outlining standards for food purchased, prepared, and served by New York City agencies, including the nutrient requirements that should be achieved. It also describes standards and exceptions for specific populations such as children or seniors. The goal of these standards is to improve the health of all New Yorkers served by City agencies by ensuring healthy, balanced diets.
