Contaminated foods sicken an estimated 48 million Americans annually, leading to 128,000 hospitalizations and roughly 3,000 deaths. The American Medical Association (AMA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have developed two web-based CME modules to help physicians identify, treat and report cases of foodborne illness and talk with patients about food safety. Primary care physicians and emergency physicians, the likeliest to see the index case of a potential food-related disease outbreak, are the principal audience for these modules. Free. The AMA has designated this ensuring activity for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
