The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Strategic Plan outlines the mission of the Department to enhance the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services. Cascading from relevant HHS Strategic Plan objectives, this HHS IT Strategic Plan, 2017-2020, outlines the Departments efforts to improve information technology (IT) in support of this mission. This document highlights the linkage between HHS IT strategy and its organizational strategy, outlines some of the drivers and factors shaping IT strategy for HHS, and provides an overview of five IT strategic goals and related objectives. Each one of the goal descriptions includes a table that maps how the strategies support the objectives under each goal. The strategy concludes with a highlevel overview of how the Department will bring this plan to fruition through tactical planning, implementation and performance measurement.
