Each year, the Health Commissioner and the Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia co-sign a letter to parents/guardians of students in School District high schools about their joint efforts to offer students free, voluntary and confidential testing and treatment for gonorrhea and chlamydia. This letter was sent to parents in September 2011. In addition to information about the school-based screening program, the letter also directs parents to resources offering additional information about STDs and speaking with their child about STDs.
