At the 2025 Preparedness Summit, an informative session will take place to share the results of a project led by the NACCHO through partnership with the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). This project aimed to identify bidirectional data-sharing capabilities of state and local health departments to improve responses to public health emergencies. The Association for State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) collaborated with ASPR on the same project with state health departments.
Session Overview
The session will feature presentations from representatives of the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services and the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department, the two recipients of the NACCHO grant. Joining them will be the ASTHO pilot sites which include speakers from the Ohio Department of Health, Washington State Department of Health, and Massachusetts Department of Public Health. They will discuss insights and outcomes from their efforts to develop a bidirectional data-sharing framework.
Key Session Takeaways
Improved Data Access: The project allowed local health departments and State health departments to explore their capacity for timely access to critical data on medical countermeasures and public health supplies, enabling more informed decision-making during emergencies.
Resource Allocation: The initiative demonstrated significant improvements in the allocation of essential resources, such as PPE and medical supplies, during surge events.
Scalability: The pilot framework showed promise for scalability in future iterations of the project, suggesting that it could be adopted by other health departments across the country to enhance their emergency response capabilities.
