Standardizing HCRAs for Local Action: A Collaborative Workshop on Measurement Approaches

May 20, 2026

NACCHO and the Health Group of CMEC (University of Vermont, University of Washington, University of Nebraska) are excited to present “Standardizing Climate and Health Risk Assessments for Local Action: A Collaborative Workshop on Measurement Approaches,” a preconference event at the NACCHO360 Annual Conference.

About the Workshop

Climate and health risk assessments (HCRAs) help local health departments understand how climate variability affects their communities. However, these assessments currently vary widely in methods, indicators, and data sources across jurisdictions, making it difficult to compare findings and coordinate responses.

This interactive, in-person workshop brings together public health professionals to examine current assessment approaches and collaboratively identify opportunities to standardize measurement while respecting each community’s unique context and priorities.

What to expect during the workshop

  • A presentation of research findings on the current HCRA landscape across the U.S., followed by interactive electronic feedback.
  • Small-group discussions organized by practice lens.
  • A collaborative brainstorming session on opportunities to make HCRAs more comparable and actionable.
  • An opportunity to join a year-long working group that will co-develop a standardized practitioner toolkit.

Learn more and register your interest for the workshop with this brief form (or, use the QR code in the flyer here).
