Last Chance to Order Print Versions of the FDA Oral Culture Posters from the FDA Warehouse

Jul 30, 2019 | Michelle Shapiro

Over the past few years the FDA’s National Retail Food Team’s (NRFT) Industry Outreach Work group created materials and story board posters (formerly known as Oral Culture) to be used for food safety training or for posting in employee work areas. These 8.5 x 11 story boards present visual depictions of scenarios that focus on the foodborne illness risk factors. They incorporate the “why” along with the “how” for key food safety practices and behaviors focused on preparing safe food. They are available in 7 languages, with English on the back of each of them. Currently these materials are available at no cost. To view the posters, click here.

As of Sept. 2019, the warehouse that stores these materials will no longer be able to do so, nor will they be able to send these materials out to our state, local and other stakeholders. If you want to obtain these posters, you must place your order before Sept. 19, 2019.

To expedite the processing of ordering these materials, the CFSAN Division of Education, Outreach, and Information, Office of Analytics and Outreach has modified the Education Resource Library (ERL) to narrow down the search for the IOWG/Oral Culture Story boards. To order posters, please go to this website: www.fda.gov/EducationResourceLibrary

Once there you’ll see a column of filters to help narrow down to the types of materials they want to see. There is a new filter, Oral Culture, at the bottom of that column. Click on that, and only that, and then click Apply, and the pages listing all the oral culture posters comes up. Then you can order via the ERL’s shopping cart system.

They have also adjusted the maximum number of copies of each poster that can be ordered. Those numbers vary according to the numbers of each poster in stock but most of them are 400 or 500, some are more, some a few less. Remember, although they never printed any of the posters just in English, every foreign language poster has the English version on the reverse.
