Learn about the process of adopting and implementing the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) at the local level with Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) in Pueblo County, Colorado. PDPHE will share their experience adopting in the MAHC in 2022 as well as implementing and enforcing the new codes after adoption. They will also share best practices and lessons learned for local jurisdictions who are looking to do the same.
About the Speaker
Autumn Whittaker is an Environmental Health Specialist for the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment. Autumn has conducted inspections in retail food establishments, recreational water facilities, and ambulances with several months dedicated to COVID-19 case investigation, CIIS data entry, and the PDPHE mass vaccination clinic. During the pandemic, she began project coordination for two 5-year CDC grants with one grant focused on using data-driven decisions to inform progress in Environmental Health programs and the other grant focused on revamping the recreational water program by adopting the Model Aquatic Health Code.
Scott Cowan is an Environment Health Program Manager at the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE). He works with PDPHE’s programs for recreational water, onsite wastewater, marijuana compliance, and Emergency Medical Services. He has fourteen years of experience in Public Health, serving previously as an Environmental Health Specialist and a Communicable Disease Specialist. Scott currently oversees the implementation of a CDC grant that focuses on strengthening EH data capacity and another CDC grant that focuses on updating the recreational water program by adopting the Model Aquatic Health Code.
