NACCHO Joins Public Health Partners in Calling on the Biden-Harris Administration and Members of Congress to Address the Health Emergency of Climate Change

Jan 27, 2021 | Anu Varma

As President Biden today prepares to sign Executive Orders to combat the climate crisis, NACCHO joins the American Lung Association, American Public Health Association, and 25 other public health organizations in signing a declaration calling on the Biden-Harris Administration and Members of Congress to take urgent action to address the health emergency of climate change.

The declaration calls for clear science-based targets that will protect human health and reduce air pollution at the same time. The declaration strongly promotes the adoption of policies that will be equitable and which will prioritize cleanup in communities that have historically borne the disproportionate burden of air, water, and soil pollution.

The document offers five priority policies to focus on, and advocates for the need to equip public health systems with resources and tools to identify, prepare for, and respond to the health impacts of climate change.
