NACCHO Statement on President-Elect Biden’s American Rescue and Vaccine Plans by Chief Executive Officer Lori Tremmel Freeman

Washington, DC, January 19, 2021 — “The nation’s nearly 3,000 local health departments have been and continue to be the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic response. With thousands losing their lives each day from the pandemic and many more suffering, a clear national plan that is informed by local expertise is critical. The President-Elect’s American Rescue Plan and the subsequent details in his COVID-19 Vaccination Plan lay out numerous steps to mobilize federal resources and assets to support the response, including a strong commitment to expanding vaccine access and a focus on strengthening the public health workforce now, and into the future. To be successful, this plan necessitates strong communication and collaboration across the federal, state, and local levels, and we stand ready to support this partnership.”
