NACCHO to Grant Up to $75,000 to Support Local Health Departments Working on Climate and Health

Sep 20, 2021 | Anu Varma

The RFA deadline has passed.

*An optional informational webinar was hosted for interested applicants on Sept. 29, 2:00 – 2:30 PM ET. The recording is saved here. The webinar slides are here.*

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) supports local efforts to track, prevent, and mitigate the health effects of climate change. According to the NACCHO Climate Change Policy Statement, these efforts include (1) the incorporation of adaptation planning into land use, housing, and transportation design; (2) preparing communities for extreme and unusual environmental events; and (3) coordinating with local governments on all-hazards disaster planning. NACCHO supports implementing existing policies and procedures (e.g., CDC BRACE framework) and integrating climate change into ongoing performance improvement measures (e.g., Public Health Accreditation).

NACCHO, with support from the Climate and Health Program at the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), intends to offer three entities with a maximum of $25,000 each to supplement ongoing climate change and health adaptation initiatives in local health departments. Past applicants have used the grants to focus on phases of CDC’s BRACE Framework; conduct community outreach; and update data to enhance adaptation planning, climate change policy development, and community preparation for extreme weather events.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Be a local government entity or other local organization (e.g., community-based organization) working in climate change and health, or a state, tribal, or territorial government entity proposing a local project with a letter of support from the local government entity. “Local” is here defined as organizations working at county, city, or community levels (e.g., local health department);
  • Have experience working on local climate change and health initiatives; and
  • Demonstrate the need for funding.

Please note that applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET on November 3, 2021. No late or incomplete applications will be accepted.
