Washington, DC, July 16, 2026 — This month’s podcast from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) highlights the opportunity for local health department leaders to engage with federal policy makers in their home communities. Speakers share tips for meeting with federal elected officials during the August recess, step-by-step guidance on how local health department officials can request an in-district meeting, and suggestions on how to develop talking points about important topics, including how to support bipartisan bills to reauthorize the Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment program (H.R. 4445 and S. 4283).
Later in the program (7:59), Amanda Kwong, the Director of the Public Health Communications Collaborative (PHCC) at the de Beaumont Foundation, joins the podcast to discuss some of PHCC’s resources that are available for local health department officials’ use as they engage with their communities. She also shares success stories on improving community trust and engagement, especially concerning vaccinations and the important role effective communications plays in those efforts.
