Staff: Scott Fisher and Jack Herrmann

ASPR approved two additional NACCHO reports on administrative preparedness for distribution. The first, Administrative Preparedness and the Public Health Workforce: Suggested Strategies for Health Departments, identifies factors that affect staffing during emergency responses and offers strategies and a review checklist for health departments to consider when assessing their emergency workforce needs. The second, Administrative Preparedness: Emergency Reporting Practices for Health Departments, discusses factors that that make reporting an administrative challenge during emergencies and identifies practices that enable streamlined reporting. NACCHO also completed two documents related to healthcare coalitions that were informed by the participation of dozens of local health department representatives in guided discussions during June and July. One document is a research brief, Local Health Department Perspectives on the Role of ASPR-Funded Healthcare Coalitions in Emergency Response and the Return on Investment of Their Participation. The other is a joint report produced with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) entitled, Characteristics of State and Local Health Department Involvement with Healthcare Coalitions. Both of these reports are intended for internal use by ASPR to help frame coalition-related work moving forward. NACCHO and ASTHO briefed ASPR’s Hospital Preparedness Program leadership on the contents of these documents on Sept. 5.
