The new report, 2024 Ready or Not: Protecting the Public’s Health from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism, released by Trust for America’s Health explores the nation’s readiness to protect communities during health emergencies and recommends policies that can strengthen public health emergency preparedness.
The report measures states’ preparedness to respond to a spectrum of health emergencies and to provide ongoing public health services based on nine key indicators and gives federal and state policymakers actionable data to improve emergency readiness. The report’s findings showed both areas of strength in the nation’s health emergency preparedness and areas that need attention.
This year’s report includes a special feature on extreme heat and its disproportionate impact on some populations.
