In response to the increased interest around the use of wastewater surveillance technology to track SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19, NACCHO, supported by funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), launched a pilot mentorship program in 2022 to support local health departments (LHDs) building wastewater surveillance capacity. City of Tempe, which had experience utilizing wastewater surveillance to track diseases was matched with mentees Genesee and Orleans County (NY) and Chautauqua County (NY) to exchange guidance, tools, resources, and recommendations to meet their community’s infectious disease surveillance needs.
